About Barretstown

Barretstown was founded by Hollywood actor Paul Newman in 1994 and modelled on his renowned Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, USA. It serves children affected by serious illnesses – primarily cancer and serious blood diseases and their families.  Barretstown’s mission is to rebuild the lives of these children and their families. We believe that every child with serious illness should enjoy their childhood. All of the children and families come to Barretstown free of charge. Services are provided entirely free of charge to the families who attend, so donations and fundraising efforts are vital for the charity to help more sick children experience the magic of Barretstown each year. Barretstown is supported by donations and the fundraising efforts of corporate supporters, individuals and community groups. For more information see www.barretstown.org

Young boy shows his charitable side..

Ryan Wallace Hartnett aged 10, last week donated his most prized asset, a football signed by the Irish soccer squad with the aim of helping 15 lads who are losing weight for 15 different charities in Ireland Cycle4sickchildren

The charities are: The Ronald McDonald House Crumlin, Mid West Spina Bifida, Bee For Battens, Cliona’s Foundation, Pieta House, Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, Share a Dream, Temple Street, Down Syndrome Ireland, St Johns Ward Crumlin, St Luke’s Hospital Dublin, CRC Dublin, Irish Guide Dogs, Jack & Jill Foundation and Ian’s Trust.

Ryan decided to do this, as he was so impressed with the lads, he said

“I would like to help the other kids that can’t do what i can do at the moment, its lousy on them so i want to help a little bit”

Ryan who plays for Limerick FC under 11s and is a soccer nut was offered the ball back after a bid of €200 was made but has said, he does not want it back as he wants it to make as much to help out, that alone is a testament to the young man & the way he thinks outside of the game of football.

The ball is still up for auction & has been signed by the likes of Given, O’Shea, St. Ledger, Dunne, Kilbane, McGeady, Whelan, Gibson, Duff, Keane, Doyle, Westwood, Nolan, Foley, Keogh, Andrews, Hunt, Folan, Miller, Long, Lawrence, Kelly.

More information on bidding for the ball can be found on the facebook page C4sc-Pounds-4-Charity weight loss

Well done Ryan, amazing gesture from a boy so young!

Manchester Bound

Last June we organised a Golf Classic with Man U and Liverpool legends to raise much needed awareness for Dyspraxia Ireland. The funds raised that night went towards bringing The Football for all kids to Manchester and this morning they set off for Old Trafford. The kids will spend 3 days in Manchester, where they will be coached by Manchester United Coaches and spend some time at the cliff. They will also take in a premiership game.

Wishing all the kids a great time and fairplay to DB Sports Tours and Dyspraxia Ireland for organising the trip of a lifetime!
